be thankful

thanksgiving

I’m sitting in my parent’s kitchen, drinking coffee and listening to my family chat. While this isn’t some people’s ideal morning, it’s one of mine.  I’m thankful for the time I get to spend with my favorite people and the delicious food we’re going to enjoy today.  I hope your Thanksgiving is as enjoyable!

RoomBooth_GD_1436x650Have you eaten at Rural Society yet?  This weekend, I went for my third visit and the restaurant is legit.  It’s a contemporary Argentine steakhouse.  Located in the Madison Hotel at 15th and M St, NW, it’s a warm, welcoming space.  There’s a lot of dark wood and cozy nooks.

food-rural-societyThis visit, I went for brunch and enjoyed an amazing omelet with Serrano ham and matchstick french fries.  I can.not. resist match stick french fries.  My friend enjoyed the pastry basket, an ensalata mixta and steak and eggs.  While is sounds like she was really hungry, she was actually enjoying their brunch prix fixe menu.  It’s $25 and includes a choice of a first and second course + a bread basket, coffee or oj.

If you’re looking for a new place to brunch and you’re interested in quality food vs. a bottomless mimosa, give Rural Society a whirl.

Can you believe Thanksgiving is two weeks away?  I need to start thinking about how I’m decorating the Thanksgiving table, stat!  This year I’m going with sage greens, silvers and whites.  I love how what comes around, goes around.  Sage green is seeing a resurgence in the interior design world.  Which means it’s trickling down to table tops.  How are you decorating this year?

novel novels

novel-novles-nov

In honor of Halloween and Día de los Muertes, these two novels are the best that I’ve read lately in the weird and scary category. I enjoyed them because I like strange and creepy (as long as the creepy isn’t happening to me personally.)

Lauren Groff’s latest book, Fates and Furies is on all the Fall “must read” lists.  I’d never heard of her and while researching her new book, I discovered her first novel The Monsters of Templeton. I checked it out of library and when I started reading it, I was instantly engrossed.  It’s a complicated narrative with tons of plot twists.

In a Dark, Dark Wood by Ruth Ware is a fast paced thriller.  Set in the woods in a spooky house with no cell service (natch), it’s a tale about old friends getting together for a hen party. Except there’s a deadly turn.  (dum dum dum).

I read both in a matter of days.  To me, it’s a sign of a good book.  Enjoy!
