It’s the second to last day of 2015 and I’m feeling introspective.  At the beginning of each December, I enjoy thinking about my favorite moments of the year and contemplating what I hope to achieve in the upcoming year.

Work was plum crazy in 2015.  It was wonderful and hard which sums up being a realtor. There’s a lot of hustle, a lot of cursing and a lot fervent “thank you’s” when things go well. None of my successes in 2015 would have been possible without my incredible clients. Gracious from the bottom of my heart, people! Mwah!

I had two epic adventures in 2015:  I went to Argentina and England.  Traveling always inspires and refreshes me.  Both trips had a few negatives but overall, they were fantastic. My first trip in 2016 is to Harbour Island in January and I can’t wait! I hope there’s at least one more international trip in 2016 and my mind is whirling with ideas.  Stay tuned!

Last but not least, I can’t tell you how much I love my new living room furniture!!  It may seem silly to be this excited about a room but it makes me so.damn.happy. I work from home and looking at this beautiful space gives me oodles of satisfaction.  Next on the agenda: updating our bathrooms.  I’ve already pinned a million ideas!

Happy 2016!  I’ll be back with regular posts next week.

The holidays are officially here: the mantel is decorated, my aunt and uncle are visiting and there’s a cooking frenzy in the kitchen.  Pepperoni roll dough is proofing, nut rolls have been baked and lasagna is mid-assembly. I hope you and yours are enjoying your own holiday traditions.  Happy holidays!

Sometimes you need a little wonder in your life and the new exhibit at the Renwick Gallery delivers it in spades.  The Renwick reopened in November after a two year renovation and it was my first visit.  The exhibit is short. You can see it in thirty minutes and every moment is powerful. Below are a few of my favorite installations:

treeThat’s a mold/carving of a 150 year old tree.  When you walk around to the side of the “roots”, you see the trunk. It’s immense and breathtaking especially when you realize all those pieces were hand carved.

skullThis is a skull made out of bugs.  The entire installation is made out of bugs.  It’s disgusting and beautiful.  It makes me shudder.

rainblowNo words to describe this incandescent string art except “wow”.

I love sparkle so this was my favorite out all of the pieces.  Make sure you stop and watch the video where all the artists describe their vision and what they were trying to achieve.

smores cookies

smores-cookiesLast night, I hosted a Dirty Santa party for a few of my friends.  We had a spirited gift exchange (these ladies aren’t afraid to steal a present!) and enjoyed a hearty chicken, white bean and green chili stew.  The highlight of these gatherings is always the dessert. This time I made a flourless chocolate cookie with a gooey marshmallow on top. It tastes exactly like a smore and they are divine.  Enjoy!

smores cookies

3 cups powdered sugar, sifted
3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder, sifted
1 Tbsp cornstarch
1/2 tsp espresso powder
1 tsp fine sea salt
1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
2 large egg whites
1 large egg
1 tsp pure vanilla extract
1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
18 large marshmallows
1 oz semisweet or bittersweet chocolate, finely chopped (optional)

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. In a large mixing bowl, sift together the powdered sugar and cocoa. Stir in the cornstarch, espresso powder, salt and cinnamon until well combined.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the egg whites and egg until light in color and completely scrambled. Stir into the dry ingredients until combined. At first it will seem like there isn’t enough liquid – keep stirring and folding together until a thick batter forms. Stir in the vanilla and fold in the chocolate chips.

Spoon the batter in heaping tablespoons – it will be gloppy – onto a silpat or parchment paper-lined baking sheet, about 2-inches apart. Bake for 10 minutes, until the cookies begin to puff and crackle, then top each cookie with a marshmallow, and continue baking for another 4-6 minutes, until the marshmallows have puffed/melted and the cookies are set around the edges.

Remove from the oven and let cool and firm up on the baking sheet for 5 minutes. Sprinkle with chopped chocolate, if using. Transfer to baking racks to cool completely. Serve warm (and gooey)! These cookies are best eaten the day of, and will dry out quickly – Keep in an air-tight container.

I don’t know about you, but the last two months have gone by at warp speed.  I’ve been swamped at work (yea!) but I’ve also been having a lot of fun.

Have you been to The Dabney yet?  I’ve been twice and I’m completely obsessed with the place. The food is delicious and the service is A+.  No wonder it’s getting rave reviews!

I went on a DC Wise retreat to Middleburg.  We had lunch at The Salamander (so pretty) then ventured to two vineyards: Boxwood and RdV.  It was a fun day and we did a lot of planning for our events next year.  Get ready!

I had a lunch meeting at Chez Billy Sud and enjoyed a wonderful Nicoise salad.  I’m obsessed with Nicoise salads and this version was beautiful and tasty.  I’ll be back!

The new retail at the corner of 9th and U St. is ridiculous!  I can’t believe this is down the street from my house!! As you can tell from the number of exclamation marks, I’m excited the shops, movie theatre and Glen’s Market have opened.  My neighborhood just keeps on getting better.  Now bring on the Whole Foods!
