novel novels

In the last two weeks, two amazing things have happened: I got a free $45 book credit from Amazon for some lawsuit settlement and I finally learned how to use the digital downloading feature from DC Library.  I know..two totally ridiculous things but I've been so excited! It made my day. Which leads to one of my favorite topics:  what I've been reading.  I read all the time but half the books I devour are total crap.  When a good one comes along, it's always noteworthy.   The Fault in Our Stars by John Greene was absolutely beautiful.  It's about 2 kids who aren't too healthy, love and being young. I laughed. I cried. I came across a sentence so beautifully written, I'm going to quote it: "My thoughts are stars I can't fathom into constellations." Read it right now. The Book of Someday by Dianne Dixon is another great read.  It's about 3 women and their stories intertwine over a number of years. It's engaging, intriguing and well paced. Do not miss...

bidwell @ union market

Bidwell, which opened in January, is a great addition to the many dining options at Union Market.  When I went to Thread last Friday (it was so fun!), I stopped by for the first time and ate lunch. Bidwell, helmed by Chef John Mooney, serves new American cuisine.  My friend had the braised short rib sandwich and I had the pear salad with grilled chicken, raisins, pecans and blue cheese.  Both entree's were wonderful and we had excellent service. I will be visiting again for a more thorough sampling of the menu!    Meanwhile, it's nice to know Union Market has so many lunch options!  Not only was Bidwell open, so were a number of the other eating establishments like Rappahannock Oyster Co., Righteous Cheese, Red Apron, Ris and TaKorean.  It might be my new go-to lunch...

riveting rooms

Just when I think "boldly colored walls are so over", I see a fantastic room like this.  For me, the high gloss finish of those deep blue walls is amazing.  The rest of the room is fab too but the paint makes it.  Happy  Monday! photo by amy...

tired of april showers?

After the strangest weather of all time (at my Open House last Sunday, it rained, sleeted and snowed), we've graduated to sushine and a few showers. I'll take it. I'll also take the flowers and anything related to flowers because I am tired of looking at grey.  I'm ready for color. This week has been a good one.  I got my new mailing ready and it's pretty damn funny.  I was going use the photo I posted today but both my broker and graphic designer said everyone would toss it.  What do you think?  Would you throw it in the trash without a second look?  My new listing at The Rhapsody hit the market.  It's so cute! This is so hilarious and fun: What celebrity decorator gets you?.  Which one "got" you?  Who do you think "got" me? 50 Spring outfits you need to copy.  I agree with 75% of these but that's better than none.  BTW-the overall trend needs to DIE. I got a Chemex coffeemaker and it's amazing.  You might have guessed from my instagram feed that I'm kinda obessed with coffee.  I've used a Bialetti coffee maker for years but was ready for a change.  The Chemex produces the smoothest cup of coffee. Yum.   Have a great weekend and if you're in DC, hit the Thread event at Union Market! image via...

thread @ union market

Remember when I went to Thread @ Union Market in December?  It was amazing and I told you not to miss the next one?  Guess what? The next one has arrived.  It starts tomorrow, April 4th from 1-7pm and continues through the weekend. I'm going tomorrow because I have to work this weekend (the down side to being a realtor) but I'm excited.  Emerson Fry (squeee!), Scarpa,  Mutiny and a host of other cool retailers are going to be there.   (photo from Thread in...

half bath revamp pt. 2

A couple of weeks ago, I did a post about revamping your half bath.  This was for my listing at 1604 Longfellow St, NW.  Now that the listing is live (and under contract..woot!), I wanted to show the final result (below).   First, how much do professional photographs make a difference??  Second, isn't it cute with the new mirror and light fixture?  That update cost $55. I got the mirror at Homegoods.  I got the light fixture from Ikea.  The new homeowner is probably going to come in and redo the entire thing. As a listing agent, you want the house to appeal to everyone.  Little fixes like a more stylish light fixture can make a huge impact for a little...
