Hello internet!  How are you? I’ve been swamped at work (yea!) but enjoying the lovely weather.  This is what I’ve been doing lately: Tuesday, I had an appointment near City Center and I stumbled upon their stellar Japanese lantern decorations in honor of the National Cherry Blossom Festival.  The festival is in full swing and the city is overrun by tourists for the Festival and Spring Break.  Make sure you check them out before they’re gone. A couple of weeks ago, I noticed the new murals in the alley near American Ice.  This panel is my favorite because the colors are so vibrant. I visited Frank Underwood’s presidential portrait at the National Portrait Museum. This tickled me to no end because it’s SUCH a DC thing.  Apparently, Kevin Spacey was there for the unveiling in character.  I love it! I think everyone knows how much I enjoy my ‘hood and this painting on U St. summarizes it...

sriracha, egg, bacon and hash brown bites

Spring has sprung and the season for guests is upon us.  I love when friends and family visit because it’s an opportunity to make something new.  Last weekend, I made breakfast bites with sriracha, eggs, bacon and hash browns.  This recipe has been making the rounds on the internet and I first saw it on Designlovefest.  I adapted mine to the tastes of my guests who like things spicy.  Enjoy! ingredients: • 8 eggs • 1/2 package of hash browns • 1/2 lb of bacon cooked and chopped • 3 tablespoons pepper jack cheese • salt and pepper to taste • sriracha • half a cup shredded manchego cheese Preheat oven to 400 degrees. I used a muffin tin to make these. Generously coat with cooking spray.  In a medium sized bowl, mix the shredded manchego cheese with the hash browns. Fill the muffin tins with the shredded potato mixture and create craters with your fingers. Place the muffin tin in the oven and bake for about 25-30 minutes or until golden brown. In a large bowl, whisk the 8 eggs together with finely chopped bacon, salt and pepper and pepper jack cheese.  Once the hash brown cups have finished baking, add egg mixture.  Place a dollop of sriracha in the center of each “muffin”. Continue to bake 10-15 minutes or until eggs have fully cooked. Cool for 5 minutes before removing from the muffin tin.  Add another dollop of sriracha as garnish then...

have you heard of havenly?

One of my favorite parts of being a real estate agent is looking at how people decorate their spaces.  Recently, the ladies of Havenly reached out to see if I’d heard about their platform. While I’d seen it floating around the internet, I hadn’t taken a hard look at how it operated. When I did, it sounded like something my clients would utilize. So what is it?  Havenly offers online interior design services and rooms start at $199. I looked at their portfolio and I was impressed.  They’re creating beautiful, interesting rooms from online sources only.  It’s kind of genius especially for those that hate shopping in real time. While I haven’t worked with them personally (unfortunately all my rooms are fully designed), I’ll be sharing their information with my clients. image from Havenly...

my favorite DC brunch spots | U st. + 14th St. Corridor

DC is a town that loves to brunch. A lot folks go for the boozy brunch were you can drink bottomless mimosas and bloody mary’s. My focus is on the food and I have a handful of favorites. You’ll notice most are in my ‘hood or within walking distance. When I don’t have to work, I like to leave the car at home and enjoy the city on foot. Enjoy! Marvin’s brunch menu is concise but it has a number of delicious options. The chicken and waffle is one of my husband’s favorites. I like the huevos rancheros (homemade tortillas…yum) or the egg sandwich on a waffle bun. One of my favorite items on Pearl Dive’s brunch menu is their insane homemade donuts. They change daily and they’re delectable. I’m also partial to the scrambled eggs and cayenne grits. My husband’s favorite is the eggs benedict with the country ham. Of course there’s always oysters! Brunch at Le Diplomate is an event.  It’s crazy crowded but there’s no better place to swill rosé and people watch. My favorite is the Niçoise salad that features confit tuna. I could eat it everyday.  Another yummy option is the daily...

my favorite coffee shops shaw/u st. corridor

I’m a coffee fiend.  It’s one of my favorite morning rituals. At home, I use a Chemix and it delivers a smooth cup of coffee. When I’m out in the neighborhood, a tasty cup of coffee is a priority.  I’m drinking my coffee black these days so fancy lattes and syrups don’t hold a lot of appeal.  These three coffee shops are my favorites. Compass Coffee 1921 8th St, NW.  This location is part of the new development at the corner of 8th and U St., NW.  Compass is locally owned and this is their second location.  The Coffee Bar 1201 S St., NW  TCB is located in a historic townhouse at the corner of 12th and St., NW. Tucked away on a shady street, it’s a lovely place to grab a cup of coffee. It’s also locally owned and they recently opened their second location at 1200 17th St., NW.  The Wydown  1924 14th St., NW  They Wydown is another locally owned coffee shop (see the trend here??) which serves a great cup of joe. They’re slated to open another location on H St. NE in 2016. Where do you like to...
