Two Etsy shops that are killing it

I know some people find Etsy overwhelming but I love it.  I enjoy supporting small businesses, the variety of prices appeals to me and it’s not cookie cutter. Whenever I’m shopping for home goods, I check out Etsy first. VictoriAtelier.  When I was redecorating my living room last year, I stumbled across the VictoriAtelier shop.  I purchased an original 23 x 23 oil painting for $165.  It’s gorgeous and every time I see it, I smile.  Her work is colorful and abstract (my favorite!). She lives in Spain so it took a couple of weeks to reach me and was in perfect shape when it arrived. Urban Pillow I enjoy a colorful throw pillow and it’s the accessory I change the most. Therefore, I don’t want spend $150 for a pillow. Urban Pillow has a wonderful selection that costs between $22-36.  It’s only the cover. You have to provide the insert yourself but those are easy to find too!  ...

have you heard of havenly?

One of my favorite parts of being a real estate agent is looking at how people decorate their spaces.  Recently, the ladies of Havenly reached out to see if I’d heard about their platform. While I’d seen it floating around the internet, I hadn’t taken a hard look at how it operated. When I did, it sounded like something my clients would utilize. So what is it?  Havenly offers online interior design services and rooms start at $199. I looked at their portfolio and I was impressed.  They’re creating beautiful, interesting rooms from online sources only.  It’s kind of genius especially for those that hate shopping in real time. While I haven’t worked with them personally (unfortunately all my rooms are fully designed), I’ll be sharing their information with my clients. image from Havenly...

did you know rejuvenation has more than lighting?

I’ve always been a huge fan of Rejuvenation’s lighting options. I’ve been stalking their Cedar & Moss collaboration for months because it’s so good. I recently discovered Rejuvenation also sells furniture and it’s bad ass.  I don’t need anything for my house but I’ll be sharing this website with my clients. new living room furniture!!

After months of plotting and planning, the new living room furniture is here!  Squeeeee! While I wish I could take credit for all this loveliness, I can’t.  I had an interior designer help.  Sometimes you have to admit your weaknesses.  I’m really good at furniture (I found the chair and the couch) but not so good at rugs and art.  I had been contemplating updating the living room for years but was paralyzed to choose a rug.  There’s a million choices and they’re expensive!  Through Emily Henderson’s blog, I started following her former co-worker Orlando Soria.  He works with Homepolish and the rooms he designed were spectacular.  Intrigued, I found Homepolish offers their services in DC and I signed up.  My designer was Lauren and she found my incredible rug, those beautiful lamps, pillows and the art.  It’s everything I imagined and very, very me. I wanted something colorful but comfortable, a mix of classic and modern.  I think she nailed it!...

dream house | malibu farm house

It started with this pool.  It’s been hot and humid in DC and daily, I wish I had a pool.  My own private pool..not a pool to share with the masses.  Then I looked at the rest of the photos of this house and I was impressed.  I see a lot of great real estate but this place is stunning. For the entire tour, go to Domaine. All photos from Domaine Magazine by Tessa...

before and after | plycraft recliner

After a brief trip to NC to be reupholstered (my parents found a guy that reupholstered the chair for $175.  Seriously.), my chair is back!  I LOVE it. I went with a graphite fabric from Osborne and Little.  It’s got a little texture but most importantly, it’s not scratchy.  I loath scratchy fabrics. My new couch is also supposed to be delivered soon.  Before you know it, I’ll have a brand new living room!   *currently the living room is a state of disarray.  new furniture coming in and old furniture going out.  it’s driving me crazy. please ignore the mess in the...

my favorite interior design blogs

Most days, I’m swamped with the minutia that’s a necessary part of real estate transactions. When I need a break and I want to engage in some eye candy, I head straight to my favorite design blogs.  I’m a visual creature, what can I say?  Looking at well designed rooms inspires me.  Especially “before and after” shots.  Seeing a dismal room transformed into something amazing makes my day.  Below are my three faves. I adore Amber Interiors.  She has style for days and I’m constantly gawking at her latest creations.  Look at this place!  You should see the before..it’s crazy how much she changed the space. Lauren Leiss’s aesthetic couldn’t be further from mine. However, her mix of neutrals and natural materials is stunning. She lives in Northern Virginia and she transformed a 70’s “modern” home into a showcase.  Keep your eyes open people..she might be selling in the near future. I know I’m broken record about Emily Henderson but she has mad skills.  Also, her blog makes me laugh on a regular basis.  Anyone obsessed with small, brass figurines and admits it is OK by me....

my visit to modern mobler (and my new chair!)

In between appointments on Sunday, I drove to Kensington, MD and went to Modern Mobler.  What’s Modern Mobler?  A vintage furniture store that “specializes in Mid-Century Modern and Danish Modern furnishings..all [the] pieces are vintage, primarily from the 1950’s-1970’s.” Why to did I drive to the Kensington store when they have a location at 7313 Georgia Ave NW? The Kensington store had a Plycraft Eames style lounger that caught my eye. I wanted to test the chair’s comfort factor and decide if it was going to be the latest addition to my living room. I’ve wanted to check out Modern Mobler for months but finding time for a visit with the Spring buying/selling season wasn’t in the cards. When I arrived, I found a charming store, chock full of beautiful furniture. Their inventory is impressive. If my house wasn’t already fully furnished, there were several pieces I would’ve taken home. If you’re looking for unique items for your home, Modern Mobler should be on your shopping list. The best part?  The chair!!  It’s exactly what I wanted and I bought it! Even though it’s in excellent shape, I intend to reupholster it.  I don’t do beige or nubby fabric.  Nonetheless, it’s fantastic and I can’t wait to enjoy the “improved” version....

have you heard of attic?

Have you heard of Attic?  It’s a new website that puts together inventory from over 30 “vintage, antique, restored and artisan furniture” stores in the DC area.  I’ve been using the site daily since it launched a couple of weeks ago. I was looking for a chair for my living room.  I wanted a Selig Egg Chair or a Eames Style Lounger but I don’t have time for daily stops at Miss Pixie’s, Modern Mobler or Simon’s Vintage.  Attic let me check out new inventory from those stores plus many others.  It’s genius! Speaking of which..I found a chair!  More on that...

riveting rooms | classic + modern

After dithering for weeks about what sort of couch to order, I decided yesterday and it’s in motion!  Wahoo!  Slowly (really slowly) but surely, this living room is coming together. When it’s done, I hope it has the vibe of the room above.  This mix of modern + classic is what inspired the new living room furniture.  Now I need to find a chair for me, some new lighting and art.  Then BOOM..living room done. image from sfgirlinthebay via elle decororation...

living room update

Slowly but surely, my living room is coming together.  The first major purchase was the rug and people, it’s gorgeous.  It changes the entire character of the room and I LOVE it.  There was a major freak out about the size.  This bad boy is 10′ x 14′ and my living room is an odd shape.  First, I tried it one way. Then another.  Eventually I realized I need to re-imagine the entire room. I needed to leave my preconceived notions of how it looks now and imagine what it’s going to look like in the future.  It took a minute.  There was *a little* panic because I wasn’t sure if I could return the rug if it was too big.  Thankfully it all worked out. The next step is ordering the couch.  I’ve decided what I want but not the color.  Originally, I was thinking a grey couch with blue undertones would work. It doesn’t.  Stay...
