Last weekend, I went to a pop up restaurant at a friend's house. It was a birthday celebration for my husband and a couple of friends. Eight of us attended. A pop up restaurant, also known as a supper club, is a temporary restaurant. We had a five course meal prepared by a professional chef. As you can see from the pictures above, it was top notch.
The chef who provided the amazing dinner is Sam Mitchell of Sam's Table. He was recommended by another friend that's booked him for the last two New Year's Eves. She gave him glowing reviews and I'm adding another.
The concept is pretty genius. You pick a date and time. You decide how many courses you want. Sam shows up at your house with all the supplies and prepares a kick ass meal. You provide the beverages. Sam cleans up. You get to enjoy a wonderful experience in your home. All together, it's a win-win situation.
Our menu:
butternut squash soup, granny smith apple, fried sage, spiced cream
pan-roasted halibut, beets, blood orange, endive, sherry beurre blanc
pan-roasted pork loin, collard greens, barley risotto, fried parsnips, maple-prune sauce
chocolate fondant cake, peppermint stick ice cream
photos provided by 2 of the attendees via their iphones. thank you for sending them to me and allowing me to use them! i normally take my own photos but sometimes it's nice to just *enjoy* the experience.
