My Favorite Happy Hours | Adams Morgan

When I first moved to DC, I lived in Adams Morgan. Back then, the vibe was party all night and it was full of crappy bars and restaurants. It was dirty and littered with giant pizza slices on my early morning walks. There were few stand outs but overall, it was scummy but a lot of fun. Then I moved to U St. and refused to set foot in Adams Morgan. Been there, done that. Recently, Adams Morgan got a face lift and it’s more attractive then it has been in years. New restaurants and bars started popping up and once again, I find myself checking out Adams Morgan on a regular basis. There’s a few new places I want to try (Pops Seabar and Roofers Union) and lots of old favorites (Cashion’s Eat Place and The Black Squirrel) but my two favorite happy hours are at Mintwood Place and Jack Rose.

The happy hour at Mintwood Place is always packed. You have to get there at 5:30 on the dot or the seats in the bar are full. Happy hour is extensive: $5 for a glass of house red, white or sparkling wine, $5 draft beers and an $8 cocktail of the day. Plus a large part of the menu is available at a discount. 5:30-7pm in the bar only.

The happy hour at Jack Rose is only offered in the Saloon on the first floor. It’s from 5-7pm and they offer $2 off draft beer, $5 glasses of house red, white and sparkling wine. Select bar food is half off. It too gets crowded so go early.
