I'm a big fan of food markets. On trips to Philly and San Francisco, my favorite memories were visiting Reading Market and Ferry Plaza. Therefore I was thrilled when DC decided to create something similar with Union Market on 5th St, NE.
I visited on Saturday morning before I went to work. It was early so many of the food stalls weren't open yet. Rappahannock Oyster Bar and Righteous Cheese open at 11am but Peregrine Coffee (yum) and various stands like Lyon Bakery were doing brisk business.
It was a gorgeous day. I sat outside and drank my latte. The market was packed with families, neighborhood folks and students from Gallaudet University. I think it will be successful even though it's off the beaten path. An additional bonus is A. Litteri around the corner. You can pick up one of their delicious subs plus goodies from the market. For me, that's the perfect sort of day!
